As Beautification Coordinator, I serve as a link between the Mayor and the community by assisting with community projects, presenting programs to schools, civic organizations and others. I also respond to inquiries or complaints from members of the public as well as the planning and implementation of Keep Monroe Beautiful activities.

Monroe has a number of opportunities that we all can be a part of to make it even better! Each of us has an obligation to keep up our environment. Through our everyday choices and actions we can have an abundant impact and make great improvements throughout our fine City! Each citizen can actively participate daily with acts of pride such as not littering, recycling and implementing basic improvements in and around your neighborhoods, schools and churches.

Why not start today by making sure (1) your yard is free of debris, (2) your lawns are mowed regularly and (3) plant easily maintained shrubs. Neighbors can join together and form street cleanups. Volunteering to make a difference in your neighborhood will indeed boost the morale of your community. There are several activities that our Beautification Department can assist you with. Would you like to start a garden club in your neighborhood? Would you like to have a neighborhood cleanup day? Our office looks forward to assisting you so that together we can all be Monroe Proud!

Don't top your trees
Tree topping is the drastic removal, or cutting back, of large branches in mature trees, leaving large, open wounds that subject the tree to disease and decay. Topping causes immediate injury to the tree and ultimately results in early failure or death of the tree. Topping does not make a tree less susceptible to storm damage or invigorate a tree. Topping is not pruning. Pruning can reduce the size of a tree while maintaining it's natural shape, beauty and health. Protect your trees. Hire only competent, insured and certified tree care professionals. Certified professionals will not top a tree. To find a certified professional go to or if you call a tree service company ask if they have a certified arborist on staff.
