Chief David Hill
Chief of Investigative Division

Chief Tommy James
Arson Investigator
The Investigations Unit is responsible for fire cause determination in the City of Monroe. The unit is comprised of two investigators. Those assigned to the unit are POST Certified Peace Officers with full arrest powers.
The Investigative Division's primary duties are fire origin and cause related, however the division also conducts Administrative Investigations such as pre-employment screenings, background investigations, and Internal Affairs Investigations.
Fire Investigators undergo extensive training which includes Fire/Arson Investigations and Interview and Interrogation Training provided by the National Fire Academy. Investigators attend the North Delta Regional Police Academy to attain knowledge in the enforcement of local, state and federal criminal statutes. Investigators are certified as Origin and Cause Investigators. Both Investigators are certified examiners in Forensic Voice Stress Analysis. This extensive training helps Investigators while conducting origin and cause determinations at the fire scene as well as criminal investigations once a fire has been identified as arson.
Monroe Fire Investigators work closely with other local fire investigators as well as the State Fire Marshal's Office. Investigators work closely with other local law enforcement, Louisiana State Police, and Federal Agencies such as the ATF and FBI. Arson is a crime that violates local, state, and federal law.
Please feel free to contact the Investigative Division with any questions, comments, or inquires.
Remember: Arson is a crime! If you suspect or have any information of arson please contact the Monroe Fire Investigators.
