Entergy-City of Monroe Community Service Scholarship

Purpose of Entergy-City of Monroe Community Service Scholarship

Mayor Jamie Mayo's Operation Y.E.S. (Youth Enrichment Strategies) is a program designed to help mold Monroe youth into becoming productive citizens by encouraging them to create new and/or become more involved in existing community service activities. This approach will help mold Monroe youth into becoming productive citizens who, upon high school or college graduation and beyond, will be more likely to become active, positive role models within our community.

Inspired by Mayor Mayo's efforts, in 2003, a group of concerned community and business leaders decided to follow his lead and help in his support of our youth by establishing an initiative that would award college scholarships to deserving eligible students who reside in Monroe and have demonstrated a commitment to academics and community service.

The City of Monroe in conjunction with Entergy and Community Outreach of Ouachita, will award a maximum of $6,000 in scholarships to deserving local students in May 2018. This community service based scholarship of at least $500.00 each will be awarded to a total of up to twelve eligible graduating high school seniors who live in the City of Monroe. These students attend Carroll, Neville, Wossman, St. Frederick, Ouachita Christian and River Oaks High Schools. These students also maintain a minimum of3.0 GPA, 21 ACT score, have performed acts of community service, and will attend a Louisiana college or university.

The support received from the players and sponsors of this year's 2018 Golf Tournament will help fund these scholarships and an awards banquet that will be held in honor of the recipients. The "Scholarship Scramble Golf Tournament" is our sole source offunding for these scholarships. We greatly appreciate your support with players and sponsorships as we raise funds for this worthy cause.

"Golf ... with a purpose!"

Thanks for helping us support the youth of our community!
