“Preschool Masters”

About the Class:

Preschool Masters will be based on a foundation of teaching the disciplines of Elements and Principals of art and inspired by famous artists. Students will create wonderful works of art and learn basic art skills.

About Denise Harrison:

Denise Harrison has been an art educator for the past twelve years at Rayville Elementary School. She plans and instructs each art lesson using a wide variety of teaching aids, motivational and implementation strategies to engage students in active learning. Denise’s desire as an art educator is to bring creative energy to her art class by enlightening students about past cultures, how art is used in everyday life, the beauty of works of art, and knowledge of artists of all eras.

“FREE Children’s Drop-In Activity”

Saturday, November 5th
Anytime between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. FREE
Any age child is welcome!

About the Class:

Students will be practicing a printmaking technique on textiles!

Offered the first Saturday of every month, these free activities are for children of all ages. Drop by the museum any time between 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on the scheduled day. Children will work on an art project that relates either through subject matter, medium, or technique, to the exhibition currently on display. Please note if the first of the month falls on a holiday or museum installation day the event will be rescheduled. Current schedules can be found in the Current and Upcoming Classes section of our website.

These events are free and open to the public.

“Bookmaking Workshop”

$135 for museum members/ $155 for non-members

What you learn?

In this evening workshop, participants will learn to produce a hardbound, pamphlet stitch book, which can be used as a sketch book or journal. All the essential bookmaking materials and tools will be provided. No previous experience is necessary. Students will be shown various examples of handmade books; learn about bookmaking terminology, tools, and materials; and have a good foundation in bookmaking after completing this workshop.

About Frank Hamrick:

Frank Hamrick is an Associate Professor of photography and book arts and MFA Graduate Program Coordinator at Louisiana Tech University’s School of Design. His work mixes image making, storytelling, letterpress, handmade books and found objects. His art is influenced from his additional work at venues including the Penland School of Crafts, the Maine Media Workshops, Hatch Show Print, Nexus Press, the New Orleans Photo Alliance and the University of Georgia’s study abroad program in Cortona, Italy. His photographs and handmade books have been in numerous publications and exhibitions and housed in permanent collections including the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. His work has received national attention from NPR and Oxford American Magazine, who named Frank as one of the 100 under 100: The New Superstars of Southern Art. Frank received his BFA from The University of Georgia and his MFA from New Mexico State University.

“Beginning Stained Glass Workshop”

With Mark Bleakley
Monday – Thursday, November 7 – 10, 2016
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
$160 museum members / $170 non – members

Class Description:

This workshop will teach the student how to build a small stained glass panel using the Louis Comfort Tiffany method. Students will learn a brief history of stained glass, pick out a pattern, learn to cut glass, put together a panel using copper foil, and solder their panel. The class will be (4) two-hour sessions, July 6 - 9 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.

Registration includes stained glass and basic supplies. Space is limited and reservations are required. No prior experience is necessary.

About Mark Bleakley:

Mark Bleakley has worked in stained glass for nearly 15 years in three professional studios in Houston, TX, and Pittsburgh, PA.  In 2010, he opened Bleakley Stained Glass in Vicksburg, MS, with commissions throughout the United States.  Mark has been teaching stained glass classes since 2009.  In 2013, he moved to Monroe, LA, where he serves as vicar of All Saints Anglican Church.

“Bottles and Brushes Painting Class”

$30 per student

About the Class:

Students are welcome to bring a bottle of wine or other preferred beverage. You must be 18 or older to attend the class, and 21 or older to drink alcoholic beverages.

Bottles and Brushes will be held monthly in the Masur Museum of Art Carriage House. A new painting will be offered every month. No prior painting knowledge is needed.

About René:

René Hatten is a self-taught painting instructor who has developed artistically since her retirement in 2009. She has been a Louisiana Outdoor writer and photographer since 2003, and has been published in Bayou Outdoor Magazine, Louisiana Road Trips, Birds and Blooms, and Kodak. She currently has an outdoor column in the Ouachita Citizen. Hatten is also a member of the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association. As a lifetime native of West Monroe, Louisiana, she has been commissioned to paint murals for state fairs, agriculture agencies, area businesses, schools, and community events. After attending numerous Bottles and Brushes classes at the Masur Museum of Art, Hatten began instructing her own painting classes, both privately and for fundraising events. “Printmaking Workshop”

Tuesdays and Thursdays, December 6 - 20, 2016

What you learn?

Students will learn basic printmaking techniques, including monotype and collograph.  All supplies will be provided. A special “field trip” to the ULM printmaking department will be planned. The date will be determined by workshop participants.

About Doyle Jeter:

Doyle Jeter is a Printmaking Instructor at University of Louisiana at Monroe. Jeter received his Master of Fine Arts from Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico. His work is in multiple public and private collections in the USA, Ireland, Venezuela, Canada, Holland, Bali-Indonesia, Germany, and Puerto Rico.
