Employment - Communications Officer Requirements

We accept applications throughout the year and positions are filled on an as needed basis. Before you can apply for this position, you must pass a Civil Service Examination. To inquire about the dates of the examination you may call the State Examiner's Office in Baton Rouge at: (225)-925-4567.

Requirements to take the Civil Service Examination:

  1. Must meet all requirements of the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Law, including being a citizen of the United States, being a qualified elector of the State of Louisiana, and passing a civil service examination for the position


  2. Must be at least 21 years of age
  3. High school Graduate, possess a valid equivalent certificate issued by the State Department of Education, or possess any equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient, in the opinion of the board, to indicate abilities necessary to satisfactorily perform the work


  4. Must pass a standard typing test demonstrating the skill and ability to type a minimum of forty (40) words per minute accurately. The test will be given at 1810B Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., Monroe, Louisiana 71202. See Brenda Ardito (318)329-2641


  5. Good moral character

To be considered for hire by this Department, along with the above, you must successfully complete the following:

  1. Score 75 or above on the Civil Service Exam
  2. Submit to a thorough background investigation
  3. Be present for a review board held by a panel of supervisors
  4. Pass a Physical Stress Evaluation
  5. Pass a medical examination
  6. Pass a psychological exam
  7. Must apply for a restricted radio-telephone permit, or as otherwise required by the F.C.C. for operation of police radio
