Frequent Questions

Q: How much sodium is in Monroe's drinking water?

A: The sodium in Monroe's water ranges from 10 to 23 (milligrams per liter) mg/l.

Take a look at the sodium content of other items consumed and you will see the sodium content in the water is very low.

Q: Is there Fluoride in Monroe's water?

A: No.

Q: Why is my water sometimes brown?

A: The distribution system that delivers water to your home in some areas of Monroe is very old, and in some locations to small to handle the flows. Replacing old cast iron lines with PVC pipes, where possible, and upgrading other pipes in the system, so they can deliver more water at reduced pressures would lessen the out breaks of brown water.

Q: How often is the water tested for bacteria?

A: Monroe's Water System is required to collect 60 samples a month for bacteriological safety under Environmental Protection Agency guidelines. We are also required to monitor the disinfection level in the distribution systems at least 45 times a week to ensure minimums levels of disinfectant are met and the maximums levels aren't exceeded. All public water systems must meet the primary and secondary drinking water standards set by the E.P.A.

Q: How hard is Monroe's water?

A: The total hardness in Monroe's drinking water ranges from 12 to 35 mg/l (milligrams per liter) as calcium carbonate. The two main compounds that makeup a waters hardness are mainly the ions of calcium & magnesium.
